Anyone boating in the Ogden area Mondays?

Post by mcirque on Thu 10 May 2012, 12:54 pm

I've been rafting for the last couple of years and want to get back in the kayak. Comfortable up to class III in a kayak and am looking for people to paddle with after work on Mondays.

Sounds like OPP is closed and I've never floated the Crystal wave area. I like front surfing but I'm not a big rodeo boater. If anyone's interested in getting out for an hour or two that would be great. Thanks

hi mcirque; is that short for Middle Cirque at the Bird?
Crystal wave is a user-friendly spot for eddy turns, bracing, rolls; check it out if you are local. There is some (mostly flat) attainment upstream thats a decent paddling workout. If you put in above Wall Ave, check for wood on that bridge.

If you are coming from SLC, then Henefer to Taggart on the Weber would be right up your alley; at 473 right now; it is in. Croyden wave should be a decent front surf.

I could paddle near Ogden at 5:30 PM Monday. If the Ogden is over 300 I'll want to get in a Narrows lap; but we could do a Rainbow Gardens too (shallow III, with a bit of wood), or Gramercy st to Crystal wave (II).

mcirque isn't entirely about snowbird although I do enjoy the cirque on a powder day. It references my consulting business name (mountain cirque).

Anyway, I've floated the Henefer to Taggart stretch many times and I do like the Croyden wave. I work in Ogden Monday's and Wednesday's and am done by 5pm. I'm mainly looking for people to paddle with to be safe. I suppose I could do some solo park n play at the Crystal but always figure its better to be with others on the water.

I'd be up for any paddling areas (even Hen-Tag section). I have some conflicts next week but will send you an email about the week of the 21st. Thanks.

I see; I was wondering why Monday :-).
If you are ok with creeky III (that is, shallow; brace don't flip); Rainbow Gardens is good fun, especially if we get some more water. I like a full face helmet cage and elbow pads just in case. 300+the waterfall would be reasonable. 450 is quality. RG is something I've bike shuttled quite a bit, since there is a bike path all along the run, and its short. Pineview above the Narrows is good also; scenic II, then III below Alaskan Inn, with one III+ rock garden.
