Uh, when the water gets turned on Smile

It hasn't flowed at even a 'low' level yet this year, farmers are taking more water for irrigation and even 89-RW is not runnable at what is normally a doable level on the gauge.

I'm not holding my breath that it will go at all this year.

If you check the gateway USGS gauge, deduct about 300 cfs to get an idea of whats flowing in the bend. The water taken out is put back in after the power plant at the mouth of the canyon.

There was a child that drowned at OPP and farmers upstream of the Eggs tried to be 'helpful' and increased their diversions when they heard that the Weber's level was going to be dropped in an attempt to recover the body. The gauge vs reality thing has been messed up ever since. For awhile, most of the river had almost no flow, causing a fish kill. Its been a strange year, to say the least.

There are probably only two circumstances where the Eggs will be boatable the rest of 2012 (both long shots, but I figure it will help to have more of us "visualizing" for long shots :-):
1. Rain spikes.
2. If they stop diverting for the powerplant, due to working on the diversion or whatever. Then 390 on the gauge would suddenly be like 690 on the gauge (with a 300cfs diversion like Jeff mentioned).

#2 has happened rarely, and there is no way to tell from an online gauge.
#1 shows on the Weber@gateway gauge, but it takes heavy rain, upstream (like in Morgan and East Canyon), for a few hours, and then the gauge will bump up fast, and the ones I have seen have always dropped just as fast.
Runnable windows would typically be a couple hours. It could be a solid medium flow though (solid class IV).
Here was a rain bump to 900 cfs last February:
http://nwis.waterdata.usgs.gov/nwis/uv?cb_00060=on&cb_00065=on&format=gif_default&begin_date=2012-02-22&end_date=2012-03-01&site_no=10136500
If you figure that boatable flows are over 550 or 600 on the Gateway gauge, even this big storm was only runnable for a few hours.

Ok Bill... lets create the Eggs Storm Chaser Alert Network Smile

Those interested in if/when it bumps post a little 'in' comment here on this thread and make sure your notifications are on. You'll get an email (possibly in junk folder) letting you know there is a post and include you telephone number. If we get a storm like that, I'll drive the 7 minutes to the Eggs from my house and alert everyone to get your shit together and head up. Looks like we're going to have to work for our Eggs this year.

The level has started to climb to 426cfs. I'll start watching the river in the bend and update if it gets runnable. (ELF included)

It got up to around 516cfs and I took the Harley out and did a lap around the canyon to scout it.

EOE (end of eggs) is still too low and Eggs is going to need at least another 200 to be gtg.

Uinta Bridge on the 89-RW wasn't passable anywhere but the far far left side and even that looked manky.

The level is doing the two little steps up, one little step back kinda thing.. just going to have to wait and see.

still that wood near the Eggs putin... I'll help, let me know.

How can End of Eggs be too low; I thought that was = to Gateway; must be diverting below the dam??

Like I mentioned earlier, the whole 89-RW section (and below) is not nearly high as it used to be at the same gauge reading. The Diversion that heads directly west from the mouth of the canyon is quite full... maybe that's the culprit

FACT!!
FSM and I managed to get over there for an 8:15PM putin; weren't sure if the level was dropping so we figured a couple laps on the bend, hike back to the cars, and didn't set a shuttle (but ended up doing the whole run on the second lap anyway
:-). It was good! Somewhere between 600-700 on the gauge; and it didn't look like they were diverting more than 150 at the power plant. Very Happy sunny
Stopped at the dam, hitched for the cars, and finished by headlamp at 10:30 Very Happy
