Best website for current flows

Post by lizzyjeep on Tue 03 Jul 2012, 5:32 pm

A little help here...what is a good website for checking river flows? Really missing eddyflower and its recommendations of flow levels. Thanks!

Me too. And the USGS gauges, or other specific gauges like those linked on the left side of this page.

I am in Riverdale Utah for example, so I bookmark the (multiple) USGS gauges for the Ogden, Weber, Logan, the Emery County gauge for Cottonwood Creek (bookmarked on the left side of this page as "Joes Valley"), the usbr.gov gauge for the Murtaugh (also on the left of this page), etc. Any website which pulls from these gauges (like AW, Eddyflower, etc) introduces some time delay, so if I want to see if, for example, the Ogden below Pineview has bumped at all, for a run after work, I look at the source: the USGS gauge.
If I am travelling out of state, I look at http://www.americanwhitewater.org/ , http://Dreamflows.com , http://www.kayakidaho.com/ , http://cacreeks.com , http://professorpaddle.com/ , etc.
AW has the largest river database by far, but they all have something to add. Dreamflows has some really interesting flow calculations for poorly gauged rivers like the White Salmon.
There is a lot to be said for the guidebooks for local areas too.

The USGS gauges update every 15 minutes so they aren't truly realtime. Not sure about AW and eddyflower but riverbrain updates every 15 minutes matching the USGS values. Riverbrain also has the CDWR, CDEC gauges integrated. Plus many of the runs have the river forecast integrated now. For example you can get the AHPS forecast for alpine canyon. http://riverbrain.com/run/show/17?run=Alpine+Canyon+%28West+Table+to+Sheep+Gulch%29. I use the android mobile app with it and can have my favorite flows in almost realtime anywhere now. My 2 cents

So when is someone going to do a Google Map of all the river runs in the world? EF and others already have all the Lat/Lon coordinates. It would be a very simple function. People could then get very specific directions to whatever put in and take out they wanted and know how much time it takes to get there.
