Looking for kaykers near Price, Utah

Post by aaron.zwiebel.7 on Wed 04 Jul 2012, 5:41 pm

Greetings, I'm a Class 2 kayaker with all my own equipment and a car. I'm living in Price, UT this summer, and working at a dinosaur quarry.

I'm looking for other boaters to run the rivers in the area, hopefully the Moab and Green River daily sections. I'd love to get out on the river, so hit me up, please!

On the weekend of sept 1st the Utah Whitewater Club will be down at the Green River Daily for a noob trip. If you're still around then, come on out.

Speaking of Price, I just returned from the Green on Monday. Does anyone here ever run the Price river? It looked really cool from the road above...slightly boney right now, but fun. Park and play, perhaps? There's not a whole lot of info on AW. Best, Jeff

There's actually a decent Class 2 playwave on the Price if you follow it where it turns East to meet the Green River at that abandoned store on Hwy6. Go a couple miles down that dirt road and the canyon closes in and there's at least something to get wet on. Pretty cool little canyon in there too.

I have never done that section but i hear its great. My friend did it last year, bigger water. He said you can put in near that old gas station or skip the first part. I guess the river meanders quite a bit. He said it was a fun section with some good big waves. He ran it to swaseys. Pretty sure its not an option now but early season i think its good to go.

Thanks for the tips, guys! No luck finding anyone, but I went and ran the Colorado river near Moab with a friend. It was good fun, but a little underwhelming, even for me.

I'm not optimistic about the play wave on the Price. The flow is so pitiful (at least here in town) I'd barely be able to float in it. I know canoeists in Salt Lake that have run it in the spring. They said it was pretty nice.

I won't still be here on September 1st, but don't feel bad. I'll be in Vancouver just in time for rainy season. For a few months I can do hikes and bike rides instead. The San-Rafiel Swell is a real gem.
