Need suggestion on places to paddle

Post by kholzman on Thu 26 Jul 2012, 1:07 pm

It has been about two years since I was seriously kayaking and my skills are a bit rusty. I am from the east coast and I am not familar with the rivers in Utah. Where are good places to go to practice rolling and build up my confidence again? Also, I would like to meet people to paddle with, especially other women. If anyone is interested in going out and working on skills please let me know. My schedule is open this upcoming week and on weekends.

Going to Crystal Wave in 30 min; its a fun spot to work on eddy turns, ferries, and rolls. Can get crowded with kids on tubes (and the occasional hobo), but its still fun. Upstream from the wave are some pools that are deep enough for roll practice.
Edit: we ran from Gramercy bridge to the wave; its very low, but we didn't have to get out of our boats :-).

The east side of Pineview has some beach areas that are free (if you look), that are another good place for roll practice.
Cheers

If you are in the Salt Lake Valley then Black Ridge Reservoir in Herriman is a great spot for roll practice.
