St George/S. Utah trip April 10th-May 7th

Post by riverogue on Tue 15 Jan 2013, 6:03 pm

I have another packrafter meeting me in St. George on the 10th of April to go packrafting in the area until the first week in May. He has already purchased round trip airfair from the East Coast and will have a pick-up rental with him. We will be more than happy to have some other boaters with us. We will be running all of the whitewater in the area, Zions Narrows, Zions Canyon, Virgin River Gorge, and depending on if there is the right flows: The Barracks, Timpoweap, Deep Creek, Ash Creek, and La Verkin. Perhaps we will have the time to hit up some creeks farther north as well. Just throwing this info out now incase anyone wants to take some time off for an extraordinary trip this spring. I will be continuing by exploring the other creeks draining the Wasatch plateau back to home, the rest of May, as well.

Also, for anyone that wants to come and is wishing to buy or rent a packraft, I would like to do multiple descents down to the Virgin Narrows, via hiking/packrafting in through multiple routes such as from the main North Fork, Deep Creek, Kolob creek, and Orderville Canyons.

How much experience would one need make these runs? I would love to hook up and do a few with you since I live here and have nobody to boat with.

Hi dman, if you would like, please give me a phone # or email. If your comfortable on class II, you can boat with with us on some of the stretches of river, much of the North Fork below the Narrows is class II and we might portage a thing or two if the river is high. The upper run in the Virgin River Gorge is a fun class II as well. If your comfortable on technical class III or IV and are comfortable with being 'gorged in' you can do the Zions Narrows and the Lower Virgin River Gorge with us as well.

I would absolutely love to paddle the narrows section and Zion NP. I could probably hit it in mid April for at least week. Would consider driving down from Ogden (Full size van) if anyone is interested in sharing expenses.
