I have hiked through there and have wanted to kayak it also. I know that you can in early spring. I don't know if you need a permit. There is the water fall that you would need to walk around it is too shallow below to kayak over. But it would be a great trip.

You do need a permit to run this. You need at least ~300 cfs though, and the Park won't issue permits if it's above 600 cfs in the preceding 24 hours to when you're trying to get a permit.

Most of the run is class III, but should probably be considered a bit harder due to the high consequence of a swim in there - I'd want my full group to be solid IV paddlers ideally. The waterfall is good to go.

That all being said, it won't run this year (nor did it run last year). You need a better snow year for it to be paddle-able, and even then late april is the time to get it.
