Hello! New to UT!

Post by Dan007CT on Sun 30 Jun 2013, 3:35 pm

New to the board and wanted to say HI. My girlfriend and I just moved to Utah from New England and will be looking to boat somewhere soon I hope. We live in West Jordan and have traveled around CO, UT, and WY and fell in love with the area which got us out this way. I know there isn't a ton of close rivers to run in this area but we really loved the looks of the Snake river when we saw it last year on vacation. We don't have combat rolls but we have a decent brace and are good at class 2 and the occasional class 3.  Once we get settled down a little bit more we'll be looking to hit up a river somewhere. Hope to meet up with some of you soon!
P.S if you know of anyone looking for a Physical Therapist... she is still looking for a job.
Thanks!
Dan & Geanna

Welcome Dan and Geanna-

Skills:
U of U pool at HPER center has pool roll sessions from 6-8, wednesdays.  (doubt it over the holiday but give em a call).

other paddlers w/friendly hello's, advice on rolls, rivers, technique, etc. all there.

$5, a swimsuit, and a whitewater skirt rented at wasatch touring is all you need to use the 9-12(?) whitewater kayaks there.  paddles are included.

Gear:  also a hell of a good whitewater shop up north some where. . .

guys? gals?  anyone remember what that place is called?  darned-est thing, my memory. .  Wink

just playing. . it's Gear30!

Right downtown in Ogden, on the way to the tues or weds. weekly 6pm kayak run down the weber river's Henefer-Taggart section.   The "Hentag", here on the forum.

(good to have a roll or a friend who's game to play fetch with you and your boat, btw)  You'll prolly find one here if you stick your neck out and get to know us.

anyway, check Gear30 out. One of their owners and his wife are a huge reason we have the events, trips, gear swaps, winter wavepool kayak sessions, and water rights we have along the wasatch front.  Jeff and Donica (really hoping i didn't mess that spelling up Donica.  ha)!

Instruction/gear:

recommendations for skilled kayak instructors, as well as gear for skiing, climbing, running, or most anything involving adventure.  It's all there at Gear30.

cheers and welcome to the land o Utards.  Watch out for green jello and magic underpants!

I think he about covered it!  But for your wife, check out Pinnacle Performance.  They're in Sugarhouse on 1100E.  Near you, Jordan Valley Medical Center and Intermountain Medical Center.  Pinnacle is by far one of the best PT facilities in the city.  And do really watch out for magic undies, modest clothing, and tshirts under tank tops.  Welcome to UT!

Another shop where you can buy kayak gear is Wasatch Touring on 7th East and 2nd South in Salt Lake.
Also, check out the Utah Whitewater Club.  It's a good place to meet people and some of their trips are for beginners.
