lOOKING FOR INFO ON RAFTS

Post by Guest on Mon 04 Nov 2013, 5:02 pm

I spent years in the 90's as a river guide in Utah, AZ, Texas, CO and Mexico running DIBS, Hysides, Sotars, Maravia's, Aire's and Rikens of various shapes and sizes, paddle boats, row rigs and J-rigs on multi-day wilderness river trips, big water and technical, up to class 5+ difficulty (not bragging, just letting you know I am not a novice).
I own a 16' bucket Shoshone, but have decided I need a bailer.  I am lacking the 5K plus for a new NRS, Hyside, etc, not to mention the 7K for a Maravia!  I am actually considering a Rocky Mountain Raft or other lower cost boat (ugh), and am looking for input from those of you who own or have extensive use of RMR, Star or others.  What would be your recommendation for a new 3K-ish boat in a 16'?  I don't want to get one and then 2 years down the road regret not dumping the big bucks.  Any thoughts and experiences would be appreciated.  Thanks.

We have a RMR 16' at the shop if you are interested in coming over to touch feel.
I ran the 16' on MFS last June and have my opinions. It was moderately loaded and handled a bit sluggish but is kind of a tank and powered through any of my mistakes.
Give me a call if you want to talk or come see it.
