Water in September and October?

Post by Tommy on Fri 11 Mar 2011, 7:05 pm

Hey, all. My name's Tommy. I'm a physical therapy student near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and I'll be doing an eight week internship at Intermountain Medical Center in Murray next fall. Through September and October, I'll work seven days straight then have seven days off. I've never been to Utah, but I'm hoping there will be some water waiting for when I get there. From what I can tell from AW, there are a number of rivers (and a play park maybe?) not far from Salt Lake City. Does anything run that late in the season? In PA, dam releases and rainfall usually extend the paddling season to pretty much year-round, but I understand that might not be the case in Utah.

Looking forward to meeting some of you folks!

Tommy

So, here is the scoop. Most of the dam fed stuff and runoff will be done. The last few years there has been an Ogden release in September, I hope this continues but Nate, the biggest fish has sort of stepped away due to the time obligation. What will be potentially running is the Left Fork of the Huntington(hike in), Murtaugh, and the 3- stuff in southern UT, CO and Green daily's.

West water and Sixth water are your only guarantee.

Also, the Green river play park runs until it freezes. 2-3 hours from SL,UT.

If you have 7 days off, the Payettes in Idaho and the upper Colorado (Gore Canyon) and the Gunnison in Colorado are worth looking at.
