UWC March and April Reminders

Post by Lonny Selin on Mon 14 Mar 2011, 12:20 am

March 13, 2011, Just
a few reminders.

Next Saturday, we have the Layton Wave Pool scheduled. March 19th from 7:00 to 10:00 PM. I know everyone is getting antsy what with
the weather warming a little and some of the streams making a little
showing. Seems like the water year is
looking good. Keep your fingers
crossed. Location: the Layton Wave Pool (Layton Surf n’ Swim). Bring your boats and paddles, family and
friends (helmets recommended – not required).
Members $5.00, Non-members $10.00, family discount. We have had some good turn-outs and as
long as we make a good showing this Saturday, we will try to schedule one more
session for April.
Tickets for the
Film Festival are also available at the sign-in table when you come to the
pool. See Film Festival below.

Best access from the South on I-15 is exit #330 East and
turn left (North) on Fort Street.

Cross through the next light at Gentile Street

Turn Left at the second light, Wasatch Drive and an
immediate right on Constitution.

Layton Surf n’ Swim is behind the Layton Municipal Complex
465 North Wasatch Drive
Layton, UT 84041.

As you know, we have been meeting Friday nights at the
Kearns pool: Kearns Oquirrh Park Fitness
Center at 5624 South 4800 West in Kearns (between 5400 South and 6200 South on
4800 West) from 7:00 to 9:00 PM. We have
been having a nice, warm, quiet and friendly time. We have met a couple of new people in our
community. We have the pool scheduled
again this coming Friday evening, March 18th same time. Hope to see you there. Due to the small turn-out, this is the last
session we have scheduled.

Tickets for the Film Festival are also available at the
sign-in table when you come to the pool.
See Film Festival below.

The National Paddling Film Festival Road Show to benefit the
“Snake River Fund” is coming up fast.
April 5th at the Tower Theater at 7:00 PM. Tickets are available. Advance ticket $8.00 currently available at
Wasatch Touring and Sid Sports or you can purchase tickets for $10.00 at the
door. Watch for posters in public places
and on line at utahwhitewaterclub.org and for additional persons in the
club distributing tickets.

I repeat this little blurb for those of you who
are new to this reminder.

About the Snake
River Fund:

In 1998, the Forest
Service, in response to increasing user pressure and decreasing funds, proposed
to implement a mandatory fee program on the Snake River.

In an effort to keep
the Snake ‘fee free’, a group of citizens and business in the Snake River area
proposed a voluntary, donation-based, grass-roots organization to supply
funding to support facilities, river personnel, volunteers, education, and law
enforcement along the Snake River. The
continuing partnership between the Forest Service and the Fund remains unique
in this country and serves as model to other river systems struggling with
management challenges.

It is the Fund’s vision
that the Snake River Watershed remains a vibrant and diverse ecosystem for many
generations to come to enjoy in a responsible manner

May-day,
May-day!!! One more reminder, as I am
sure you are all looking forward to getting out on the river. Actually, the first major trip on the weekend
of April 30th/May 1st looks like it may have a very large
turn-out. The water will be cold but the
outside temperature (barring inclement weather) and the camping should be
really nice. We will most likely have
some newbs as well as some new sage kayakers new to the community. I have been informed that there is a musical
jam session organizing at the Swazeys Campground that weekend so bring your
“axe” and your banjo it will be fun to join in much like a memorable trip from
a previous season.

We are working on
reminders for your membership renewal dates which are also tied to your ACA
membership. If you know your date is
due, you may only have to look at your card(s), please help us out by
contacting us first.

I am going to be bringing a friend who is new to paddling. I have everything he needs except for a paddle. Can someone bring a spare paddle that he can borrow?

Thanks,
Timmay

A little editing on the copy and paste would do wonders. The first Green trip is May 1st? Will try to make it barring everything going off which is sort of likely. Tim, got a spare paddle. Drop me a line if you need it. I will leave it by the garage in the am.

Craig,

I will stop by and try to pick it up in the morning. What is your address as I don't remember where you live.
