Beariver Fest 2011

Post by Guest on Sat 09 Apr 2011, 1:13 pm

This is the annual Evanston kayak race in Evanston through the Bear River Greenway.

This will take place on May 21st. Registration is $20(15 with ACA membership).

There will be both kayak and SUP races this year.

For kayakers, there will be a time trial round then boatercross eliminations there after.
9 foot boat limit, so leave your t canyons and dancers at home.

For SUP it will be one and done. Ken is still working out the details.

I am still looking for a couple volunteers. I need a total of three an water safety boaters. The crew last year was stellar and gets first dibs on the swimmer rescue gigs.

I am also looking for one more person to man the stop watches and record times at the bottom to work next to my crippled comrade Brandon Sturm.

I set up the event on Facebook. Either post here, FB or email if you can help.

This is such a fun event. E town has dumped so much money into the Bear and love seeing us use it. There are tons of events for the entire family.

Hope to see you there.

Craig

Bump for a reminder about WY's invasive species sticker requirement. Unless C-Dub has something worked out already, might be a good idea to get them online prior to the event. Here's the link-

https://gf.state.wy.us/elso/ELSOAISSportspersonLoginSSN.aspx

and while you're at it, here is the link to Idaho's sticker stuff-

For the record. The city of Evanston is not an enforcement agency. Whether or not the man will be there is unknown.

Last year "the man" was there handing out temp stickers. That would be cool if that happened again this year.

An interesting thing about that Temp sticker (not sure if anyone else experienced this) but near the end of last year I got a nastygram from the state of WY saying that getting a Temp was a commitment to then later buy a WY sticker at a later date for that boat and they wanted me to cough up $ for a normal sticker. Greedy bastards. Of course, I just ignored it. Smile

The man has opted against this option. Got the nasty gram also. There are truck loads of outa stater pros competing st the same time an hour east. Will be interesting to see how that is dealt with.

You would go bankrupt if you got a sticker from both states for all your boats.

If the trnd holds, could be a very fast and interesting race. http://waterdata.usgs.gov/wy/nwis/uv/?site_no=10016900&PARAmeter_cd=00065,00060

I am still looking for a couple on water rescue types and perhaps a co=timer for Brandon. Let me know.

Here is a link to the race form. Ken has requested the SUP races after the kayak races. We'll play it by ear on time and turn out.

That would be great Brian. As of now, on water safety is Larry Stewart, Smurf, Hobag, and yourself. If it goes big, the more the merrier. Brandon, would be sweet if you could help me set the course in the a.m.. Mostly checking for hazards and putting up starts and finishes. Getting excited for this also. Hope the weather looks something like today!

I'm Thinking of going

Post by Augie on Tue 17 May 2011, 10:06 pm

I was going to go up and support the general river vibe. However, I have never even seen the race course. I was wondering if there is a place to sink a squirt boat or would I just be in the way?
Maybe I should bring along my old tupperware boat? any thoughts on this?

Should be able to sink it at the bottom wave if the flows are there. Bringing tupperware as a backup probably wouldn't hurt. Love to have ya.

So what is the sticker situation this year, anyone know?
*edit* nevermind I just got a sticker...grumble.
Also, anyone know what the camping situation is in Evanston or the state park, or something? I need to be in Evanston Sunday also-trying to save a buck or two by not having to drive home and back again/or a hotel room.

Not sure how deep it is (looks plenty deep), but seems like you could sink a squirt right there at the finish line. The wave just upstream usually has good surf also. Multiple features on
The race starts @ 1:30 PM, so you'd have all morning to play, and some time after the race too.
