haha! that is hilarious!
If someone actually paddled that, that would be newsworthy. Oh wait, that happened..
Now all of Utah will be wondering - where is that surf wave? And who is that masked man in the funny boat?

The "Hole Pictured " was terminal when I looked at it with 500 less than when it was ran.

Looked at it around 4, it was run around 7. You must have looked earlier in the day because nothing looked terminal later. Just munchy. With that much flow even the first drop hole, which looked the ugliest flushed. The eggs were clearly a lesser issue than the Bend. Here is a link to the FB album.

Nice vid Brian.

When I looked at it I saw several holes that I thought would have been bad to go into. If they were terminal or not I am not sure, but if they held you until you were out of breath, or made you swim they might as well be terminal. The only section that scared me was about a 75 yard section from where you usually start moving left to just before the drops. That had a lot going on. Although the lead in was fast, it was clean, but after that was chaos. I am glad someone fired it up. I would like to see it at it's current flow.

Wow! Vid and photos are very impressive. The naive part of me wants to paddle it. Probably not wise for a couple more seasons and lots more experience. Looks like so much fun!

What are the consequences here? Worst case scenario?

Rocks are covered, wood doesn't seem to be an issue, holes look big and surgy but not retentive. A swim would be really long and it is big water so I imagine flush drowning is a risk here.

Am I missing anything?

What kind of skill set or experience would be a good prep for this kind of boating?

I will say this. If you were to swim in that you would not have a chance in hell. Even if people were throwing ropes at you, and your buddies were in their boats the chances of them reaching you in time, and being able to help you are slim. Depending on where you swam you would die end of story. Also just because you can't see the rocks doesn't mean that the river will not suck you down, and slam you into them. As far a prep for that run? Having not run it I can't be sure, but I have been running the narrows at high water for the last several weeks. Being super comfortable with that run, the eggs seemed at the top of my skill level if not beyond it. I walked away saying for me it was not worth the risk. The things that river was doing at that flow were spectacular. Prep for that seems like you need to be comfortable with big pushy water. You need to hit the Eggs on it's way up. The Narrows at high water is fun, but nothing like the Eggs. If you were real good at the Eggs from 900 to 3000 cfs you may have a chance at 4700cfs. Just know that it is a serious run, and a mistake could take your life. Shoey was saying even flipping could be serious because the water is moving so fast, and the nature of the rock underneath. I would say stick to BV start working on the Eggs, and the narrows when it comes down, and in ten years when it hits 4700cfs again you can try it out.

"...thats's why we run rivers if we are honest with ourselves. Predictable is boring. Knowing the out come diminishes the accomplishment." -my ol friend talking about running it in the 90s at 3500cfs.

Hell Shooster, can i be your manager? You seem to be getting famous for doing something you love.

Out of your boat? Flush drowning/death. If you were still hanging on and breathing you could spend time here.
