White River

Post by kolomana on Wed 25 May 2011, 2:25 pm

Hey all.... new forum member here. Hoping someone here might be able to provide more info....

I'm bringing a raft and some friends to run the White River this weekend. We have 3 days for the trip, head to Rangely Friday, put-in Saturday morning, 3 river days, take out sometime Monday with enough time to drive back to SLC.

My question is... what is the optimal section for a 3-day trip? I believe the section from Bonanza to Enron is the best for scenic and camping, but is that too short for 3 days? I'm thinking I'd like to put in at Trujillo Wash(5 miles downstream of Rangely) and try to go all the way to Enron within 3 days, but I don't want to spend all day every day on the river and get done too late Monday. Would it be reasonable to do this entire stretch on that schedule? (would be about 20 miles/day)

FYI - I ran the White from downtown Rangely to Bonanza this time last year and we were able to do this pretty easily in 2 short days. I'd like to extend the trip out for 3 days, but don't want to get in over my head to make the push all the way to Enron.

I think I can pull this off but I'd like to hear other opinions if anyone has one.

Your timing sounds right, esp if its over 1000.Check on the TO road, friends tried to do it last wknd, ended up on the San Rafael, said the road was gumbo. RRT in Vernal may have some info, talk to Melanie
