The Bear is up!!

Post by brianteats on Mon 06 Jun 2011, 12:07 pm

On my 'must do run list' this year- Anyone interested in running the Bear River from Stillwater Camp thru East Fork to Hwy 150 MP 51.5, up in the Uintas? I'd be more than willing to take off work a little early to get on this tomorrow(Tuesday) or Wednesday.
Any takers?
2 hour drive, 6 miles long(same as Hen-Tag, but faster) Plenty of evening light this time of year. EF run descrip:

You can call or text if your shy...

Great run but the situation at the takeout is dicey due to trespass issues and 'security' keeping an eye out for us.

They do care Brandon, at least the lady gave us a warning.

They do. I've talked to the chick in the red pickup (security) twice about it and she was threatening to call cops and tow vehicles at takeout. I've also searched around for an alternative takeout without much luck. Barbed wire across the river and along bridges downstream are a big issue.

So what your sayin is... The take out needs to be improvised? I'm down tomorrow evening, if others are.
You still working up there Jeff? Got the skinny on a runnable section?

What I'm saying is that when you put on from the campground you are surrounded by private property with no way out other to be sneaky. A little birdie told me that last VC 'someone' hid a bike at the takeout and the hid the boat an gear and biked back up with a super quick gear collection stop on the way out. No issues doing that but I couldn't see a group pulling it off. The sections up higher are nice, Bill and I did the run that ends at the campground. It's got a very remote feeling, wood is a huge concern and it really picks up at the end. It would be more of a weekend trip as it's about 30-45min from Evanston and with the slow going eddyhopping boat scouting needed it would take some time to finish up. Great camping too!
