Last Laps on Logan? Sat 8/6

Post by Guest on Fri 05 Aug 2011, 12:28 am

Running lower half of Upper Logan through Woodcamp and then the Town section Saturday at 2 pm.

The upper has only about 2 weeks left, 3 if we're lucky, so come get it while ya can.
The woodcamp section has 2 super fun rock gardens with surfable waves and holes and fun/strong micro eddies to play in and also, along the way, woodcamp also has 5 or 6 big strong eddies to play in, a few fun surfable waves and holes and not to mention... this run also has two of Logans best rapids... Monolith and St. Anne's (both not too crazy at this level - both about class III, maybe III+).

Anyway, we'll be meeting at First Dam at 2 pm, and... depending on group size, will be on river by about 2:45, and done with both runs by about 7, and then pizza and suds afterward at a chill local tavern.

Directions... if you're coming from out of town... stay on main till you reach 400 north. Turn east up 400 toward mountains, and go up and over hill and down other side till you see small lake/picnic area on your right (first dam). Meet there at 2 pm.

Feel free to call/text with questions 435 232 5383

Hope to see ya there Cool

Sounds like fun, I should be able to get up there. Maybe Staircase at noon?
I'd give Monolith III+/IV-. Its harder than St Annes or Rainbow Gardens anyway.

Update

Post by Guest on Sat 06 Aug 2011, 1:36 am

UPDATE: Just checked the park and play wave at 2nd dam on the logan, and it's finally back. Nice, super glassy, mellow, 20 foot wide surf wave to practice 360's on and such. I will be there by about noonish if anyone wants to join. Same directions as below... just head up canyon about 1.5 miles till you see another small lake on your right. The wave pours right into the lake. Cool

Super fun! Monolith to Card is good to go for playboats, for all you playboaters. 475 is not bumpy from Monolith to Woodcamp (contrary to what I'd heard), although below Woodcamp had some bumpy sections; not bad tho. St Annes rapid is still worth going down there for.

On the town section, the V-wave looks like its dropping into shape. Still big; good playboaters might really like this.
Footbridge drop is still quite beefy looking (it looks like cdubs description of the Logan town section: class II, then a class V hole :-); sounds like its somewhat sneakable on the left.

Wow Bill, you are the master of filing and storing obscure references. Was that three years ago?

3 years ago sounds about right; it was before I had done the run; so I guess it stuck in my head as one of those "watch out for this one" things. That memory served me well when we did Logan town last year at high water; I made darn sure to figure out where that portage was ( which took awhile of wandering around the Logan suburbs) Very Happy

BTW, the town of Logan has a huge trackhoe by the side of the footbridge, and they pulled wood off the footbridge hourly during the flood, to keep it from blowing out. Which had the (unintended) side effect of making that footbridge runnable now. Taxpayer funded removal of wood from the Logan river; is that a first? Smile
