New Years Day paddle

Post by Jeff Young on Thu 08 Dec 2011, 11:52 am

Last year we ran the provo upper town section as it was the only run with water and some whitewater. If current flows hold on the Weber, Hentag will be the flavor of the day. If it drops, the Provo run might be it again. Meet noon at put in for hentag Sun
The 1st of Jan.

Hen-tag would be a pretty sweet New Years Day run, too bad nothing's worth doing below OPP, 700cfs now!

wow, have you looked at the suicide wave lately? Wonder if that's worth the risk. We need a 'blind probe' for that one Smile

It's the wave below the confluence of the weber and Ogden located just above the dam/strainer stuff near 17th street. Brian might have a pic.

I can check it out today, haven't been down there in a while.

Spring this year- the suicide wave was a wide/big/beautiful wave just downstream the confluence... located about 50-100 yards upstream from a large diversion dam of death (in Ogden, follow 1200 west down to the diversion dam but google imagery doesn't show wave yet). One of those risk vs. reward situations, where we saw it as, "Not worth the risk, regardless how nice that wave looks"

Having never seen that dam in person, if you look at the dam zoomed out enough, or in google earth, it looks like there is a wave hole from the output of the dam.....

Hentag still holding at doable levels with good surf. If it holds I'll be checking the ice situation the day prior (sat). If any brave souls are up for it you're free to join in the expedition and get in one last day of paddling in 2011.

I'd be up for that. So what's the back-up, Provo? If for some reason they cut the flow the day before

Hentag just dropped like a rock to 164 cfs. Dear water guy who's reading this, that wasn't funny. Smile we will have to keep an eye on it as if it doesnt bounce back then plan B.
